SENSITIZATION/ADVERTISEMENT OF SERVICES OF THE APTITUDE TESTS DEPARTMENT (ATD)
INTRODUCTION
The West African Examinations Council wish to introduce the Aptitude Tests Department, under the Head of National Office Division. This is an arm of the Council charged with the responsibility of conducting aptitude tests for various clients on request. The Council has over the last seventy (70) years blazed the trail for others to follow in the area of test development and administration. It offers a series of standardized tests which provide reliable scores for predictive insight into candidates’ performances, special skills and competencies for clients, parastatals and organizations. Our modes of testing are:
- Paper Based Test
- Computer Based Test
- Remote Online Test
In line with the Council’s vision to transition all its examinations and test assessments to Computer-Based Testing (CBT), the Aptitude Tests Department (ATD) has further introduced Remote Online Testing (ROT) and Immediate Display of Result Feature as an innovative addition to its existing CBT services. This forward-looking initiative aligns with the Council’s commitment to adopting 21st-century testing technologies that enhance accessibility, efficiency, and integrity in assessment delivery.
The Remote Online Testing (ROT) platform represents a welcome innovation designed to complement CBT by providing clients and candidates with secure, flexible, and convenient
options for taking tests from any location. This modern testing solution eliminates the need for large physical gatherings, minimizes logistical and security challenges, and ensures a seamless testing experience for users across diverse geographical areas.
The Result display feature activates immediately a testee has completed his/her test. This immediate feature helps to eliminate discrepancies of manipulation and distrust of testees for clients, Parastatals and Organisations.
Furthermore, the Aptitude Tests Department conducts different types of tests and assessments which are enumerated below:
- Recruitment tests for Organizations
- Promotion tests for all levels of employees
- Assessments/Oral interviews for all categories
- Nursing/Midwifery Entrance Tests
- Scholarship Tests for both public and private bodies
- Training and workshop in Test Development and Administration
- Other Research activities related to Aptitude Testing Services
- Guidance Tests for Vocational Placement into Senior Secondary Schools (JSS 3 going to SSS 1)
GUIDANCE/PLACEMENT TESTS
The guidance test is designed to provide an objective and reliable basis for placing JSS3 students into SSS1 classes- Science, Humanities, or Business- according to their cognitive abilities, interests, and aptitudes. It helps ensure that each student is guided into a field where they are most likely to perform successfully and develop their full potential.
These tests mentioned above have enabled magnanimous Organizations to objectively select the best and most promising candidates for the appropriate positions.
CONCLUSION
The Council remains steadfast in its commitment to excellence, innovation, and integrity in all its operations. The introduction and promotion of Remote Online Testing, alongside existing CBT services, mark a significant stride in the Council’s mission to modernize assessment delivery and sustain its leadership in the testing and evaluation industry.
